Forensic science schools are highly selective institutions
that train some of the sharpest minds in medicine. Forensic scientists or
forensic psychologists are required to attend forensic science schools for
many years to sharpen their skills and powers of deduction. The road from
the forensic science schools to accredited forensic scientist is long but
rewarding.
Forensic Science Schools
The first step in the path of gaining admission to
forensic science schools is to obtain a doctorate in psychology. Most
students in forensic science schools have their doctorate in clinical or
counseling psychology, but this is not necessary. To achieve the doctoral
status takes, on average, seven years.
The next step after the doctorate is actually gaining
admission into the forensic science schools. The number of forensic
science schools is very small, and therefore admission into these schools
is very difficult.
But once a student has entered a forensic science school,
she must complete a lengthy internship where she hones her field skills.
While working on the internship in the forensic science
schools, a student must also attend lectures and seminars by experienced
forensic scientists. It is through this interaction that valuable lessons
are learned.
As well as attending these seminars in forensic science
schools, students often simultaneously take on their first cases. Once the
proper amount of apprenticeship has elapsed, a forensic scientist may
leave the forensic science schools and test to become board-certified, in
which case she will be given a diploma.
